  • Starting a team involves providing the Girls on the Run program to 8-16 girls at a location near you, becoming a part of Girls on the Run Panhandle.
Before initiating a new team, check for an existing team at your preferred location within your community.
  • Designate a site liaison who will be the point of contact for the program at the chosen location (see the responsibilities of a site liaison outlined below).
  • Please review the Site Recruitment Packet, containing valuable information about our program and the necessary steps to launch a team at your desired location.
  • Complete a Start a Team Application.
  • Recruit two to four volunteer coaches, ensuring a 1 to 8 ratio of coaches to girls, and they attend and complete the GOTR coach training.
  • Confirm that the location can provide a safe, dedicated outdoor and indoor space for the program, where the team can gather at the scheduled dates and times throughout the season.
  • Identify a consistent practice schedule (same days/times each week) based on the program offered at your location, maintaining the 1 to 8 coach-to-girl ratio. Form teams of 8 to 24 girls while adhering to the appropriate ratio of coaches to ensure a supportive environment.
  • Seek support from location administrators, such as a school principal or director of the community center, to help facilitate the program effectively and maintain the desired coach-to-girl ratio.

Site Liaison Responsibilities

As the site liaison, your role encompasses the following responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary point of contact at the site, for Girls on the Run families/participants and the Girls on the Run Council staff, throughout the program's duration.

  • Assist in recruiting team members by distributing marketing materials provided by Girls on the Run and promoting the program within the site's community through emails, using the provided digital templates. This ensures the formation of entire teams for each season at this location.

  • Provide support to families who may need assistance with the registration process.

  • Collaborate in identifying two to four coaches from the community for each team.

  • If coaches cannot be secured, we will work with you to identify coaches from our volunteer pool. Your involvement is crucial in building a successful and supportive coaching team for the participants.
